Following the emergence of the new British Prime Minster, it is necessary to shed more light on the personality and political dossier of Rishi Sunak, the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the third one within three months in the country.

It should be noted that the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan is also of Indian extractions.

Aside the aforementioned political positions in United Kingdom, there are several posts of socio political relevance being held by Indians in the country particularly in the parliament and at the local government levels.

It was expected though, if democracy is a game of number; from this year estimated figures, Indians in United Kingdom are about 1.4 million, both of Indian origin as well as those who migrated to UK, making them the single largest visible ethnic minority population in the country.

The large numbers of these people are conspicuously visible in Leicester, Birmingham, Harrow and Brent areas in United Kingdom, hence, so many Indians are elected as Councillors and Mayors in Counties and Boroughs in these areas.

You may also wish to note that international arena has pockets of Indian origin world leaders here and there.

Beyond United Kingdom, there are several other countries where Indians have risen to the pinnacle of respective political hierarchies and while some have attained enviable height of captain of industries and playing notable influential roles in the economy of many countries.

You will recall that Kamala Harris, the 58 years old, is the current elected Vice President of the super power United States of America. The woman politician has her roots in Tamil Nadu State of India.

Kindly note also that Antonio Costa is the current Prime Minister of Portugal,  serving the third term in office after winning his latest election in 2022. This half Portuguese half Indian is said to be from the State of Goa in India.

Mauritius is another country where Indians wield considerable political power. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth was elected the Prime Minister of Mauritius after holding a number of major positions in the cabinet. His biography shows he was born to the Indian family in La Caverne.

Further to the above, the 64 years old Chan Santokhi was elected the ninth President of Suriname in 2020. Suriname is a small country on the north-eastern coast of South America, a neighbouring country to Guyana.

Political history has it that an Indian origin  Sellapan Ramanathan was the former President of Singapore between 1999 and 2011. He remains the longest serving President in the history of the country till date.

Also in the tiny country of Fiji Mahendra Chaudhry was the first Indo-Fijian Prime Minister after defeating Sitiveni Rabuka in 1999 to become Republic of Fiji Prime Minister.

It could easily be deduced from the foregoing that Indians are gradually conquering the planet earth. Little wonder most Indians thronged the streets in their home country in wild jubilation on Monday when Rishi Sunak emerged the Prime Minister of the former colonial masters. What an irony! Britons were the colonial masters of Indians till 1947 when India gained political independence.
