7 DIE IN ABIA AFTER CONSUMING SUYA

Tragedy struck in Umueze Umuakanu Umuahia North LGA, Abia State where a family of seven reportedly died in mysterious circumstance after consuming local kebab popularly called suya, with juice.Unconfirmed reports said the suya was bought by the father of the deceased, a certain Jessey.

His family members, including some visiting members of his extended family joined him to eat the suya.

Shortly after consuming the edibles, the victims allegedly started throwing up.

Consequently, seven of the family members died while the wife, Mrs. Ogba Jessey, and the son survived.

Ogba, who is still unaware that her family members have died, is currently receiving treatment at Federal Medical Centre Umuahia alongside her son, as at the time of filing this report.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue.

Meanwhile, Abia State Government has expressed sadness over the death of victims.

A statement issued by the State Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu commiserated with the family and friends of the bereaved and called for calm and patience to enable relevant medical authorities properly determine the cause of death of the seven persons.

Kalu added that the Governor has fully settled the medical bills of the survivors who are now back home.
